Our Shire (Toodyay) is in a unique location being within boodja (lands) of three Noongar tribes: Yued - Ballardong -Whadjuk
We proudly share and celebrate local Noongar cultural heritage. Sitting within the lands of the Yued, Ballardong, and Whadjuk moort (families), Toodyay is known as ‘dudja’—a Noongar term describing this mist-covered region, especially during the coldest season of Makuru.
Experience the Noongar connection to this boodja, alongside bilya (river), across kaarta (hills), on ancient bidi (walk tracks), and museum.

NKAC acknowledge and pay respect to Noongar Elders . Aboriginal people should be aware this site contains images & names of people who have passed. While we acknowledge the Shire covers Yued, Ballardong and Whadjuk boodja, - the info provided is in good faith based mostly on Ballardong and we understand there are differences in language across the wider Noongar nation.
Shire of Toodyay launched its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2021. This was done in partnership with Noongar Kaartdijin Aboriginal Corporation. NKAC Chairman Robert Miles said it was with great pride that he was able to represent the Noongar community, and pay respects to the Noongar Elders. He thanked the Shire for their 'generosity of spirit' and unwavering support for a plan that is more than just words, but more of action and commitment. (RAP doc on Shire website). During Reconciliation Week 2023 the Shire launched the second RAP 2023-2026. Image: First RAP launch 2021.
